Youth Art Exchange

This collaboration with Youth Art Exchange consisted of taking high school students out to a walk around San Francisco's Mission neighborhood to observe the local street art & graffiti. They were then asked to sketch out letterforms based on the forms they saw and later come up with their own words or phrases based on those letterforms. Lastly, they printed t-shirts and tote bags with refined versions of their designs, using the silkscreening facilities at the Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts

In a separate session, the work focused more on typography & collage, letting students use letters as a primary way to express an idea or a feeling.
